Karate Club

Introduction
Al-Ghazali Shotokan Karate Club was first opened in 1999 as “Arab Shotokan Karate Club”.
In 2000 the Club became a member of the K.U.G.B. at this stage the Club never had any students with colour belts.
In 2004 the Club was named Al- Ghazali Shotokan Karate and was based at its own venue at Al-Ghazali Centre.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              In 2018 the Club joined the JKS England (Japan Karate Shotorenmei).
Now the Club has 7 black belt students and many more different colours. The Club is regularly involved in various national competitions and competes at a high LE level.

We also have one of the most successful karate clubs in the city. The Al-Ghazali Shotokan Karate club was established in 1999 and has had numerous locations since opening. We have been lucky to have one of the best instructors in the country, Jim Brennan an ex-international competitor part of the infamous KUGB England team that beat Japan in 1990. He is also an 8th Dan a senior rank that many cannot achieve. Since opening Jimmy has relocated with the Al-Ghazali and continues to teach. Over the years he has produced many black belts, regional and national champions and produced some of the best competitors in the world. In January 2018, Al-Ghazali Shotokan karate club joined the JKS England (Japan Karate Shotorenmei) to benefit and develop our club and provide a wider karate forum for our users to access, including the Olympic routes. This organisation is led internationally by one of the most respected karateka, Sensei Masao Kagawa (8th Dan) and follows the same Shotokan karate style as the KUGB.  The JKS is affiliated to the EKF (English Karate Federation) which is the approved karate governing body in the UK for the WKF (World Karate Federation), therefore giving our members access to a wider range of karate competitions in the world.

One of Jim Brennan’s students, Hisham Saif is a 3x World Champion and 3x European Champion individually making him one of the most decorated KUGB competitors. Hisham is now running a beginner class on the weekend sharing his expertise with the local community.
